Mostly friends only My livejournal is mostly friends-only (hence a wordpress blog wouldn't work), plus I keep most of my tech ramblings on my site overstimulate.com
spiders again! As I stated earlier, I HATE SPIDERS. I keep on finding them though :( I'm about to give into emily's request to get a pet just so they can kill the spiderrrrrs!
I was sitting on my couch and saw some movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned and saw this HUGE (actually about 1cm) spider. I asked emily to grab a glass, and I captured the punk. I'm putting the pictures online, so hopefully the lazyweb will help me figure out what type of spiders these are!
Save the seals Emily sent me a link to a 5 minute documentary about issues that seals face in southern california. While I'm not suprised, I'm shocked at the selfishness and lack of respect for nature some people present.
When Emily tells me about her work for The Marine Mammal Center I'm sadden even more. They rescue many animals whose problem was the result of human activity (stress or injury). When I hear about animals being shot in the face it sickens me and the contempt shown for them in this video gives you a sense of the incredible disconnect with anyone or thing outside their small circle.
Software Testing and Mathematics I was talking with Eli today about software testing and he recommended a book, "Lessons Learned in Software Testing." It has been a great read so far. I've always enjoyed working with testers to track down bugs.
I'm only a quarter of the way through the book, but many lessons feel very familiar. "Even mathematicians reason actively and searchingly, rather than through the application of dull formulae. They think like testers!" (Lesson 20) Many of the lessons apply to when one proving mathematical statements. The book warns of giving others false confidence that completing all the tests mean that the software has no bugs, much like you cannot prove something by showing it holds in most cases you've tried. Also that proving something is untrue (and software is buggy) can be accomplished by showing it false under a single case.
The rest of the book should be interesting. Hopefully this will help with collaborating with our testing team. I've been very lucky to work with MANY excellent testers at Flock!
Also, we are looking for a few more testers. So if you are a mathematician or a tester looking for a job ...
I HATE SPIDERS! I really like our house. It is cool, cheap, ... We have a nice pool.
But we must have some sort of spider infestation. We have to kill one a day on average. I hate spiders. They give me the willies. They aren't too big (always smaller than an inch), but what if they attack while I'm sleeping. Is this normal for San Jose? Would a pet cat or dog kill them? Perhaps a lizard?
Searching the internet has served only to freak me out even more
